DiamondsPrecious, unique & rare
A diamond’s journeyfrom the core
Natural diamonds are formed in the Earth’s mantle at extremely high temperatures and pressure, which occurs over periods from one billion to three billion years. Extremely rare volcanic eruptions in certain parts of the world bring diamonds up closer to the surface producing special rocks known as kimberlites. To date, only 30 out of the 6,400 kimberlite pipes discovered across the world have actually contained diamonds. Graphite and diamond are the only two minerals in the world that are composed of one single element – carbon. The formation processes differentiates the two, making them complete opposites of each other. Graphite is very soft, while a diamond is the hardest mineral (58 times harder than anything else on the planet to be exact) and can only be scratched with another diamond. Currently the biggest diamond reserves are found in Russia, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Australia and Canada. Once found, rough diamonds are sorted, cut and then polished, transforming them into the most sought after gems in the world.
GIA Certifications4C's grading
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is a nonprofit institute dedicated to research and is the leading source of knowledge, education and standards in the field of gemology and the jewellery arts. The GIA established the Diamond Grading System known as the “4Cs”, which has become the worldwide standard for evaluating diamonds. Following careful analysis by GIA specialists, each diamond is issued with a Diamond Grading Report that provides an overview of the quality, certifies authenticity and value. A GIA report will include cut, clarity, colour and carat weight as the diamond values.
